I was born in England and moved to Australia with my family when I was fourteen. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up and was afraid that I would never find out. In year ten, one of my assignments was to write a science-fiction creative writing piece as this was what we were studying at the time. I didn't want to write one because I hated science-fiction (and still am not a huge fan of it) so I wrote a stupid story about aliens coming to Earth and trying to take over the world. I wasn't proud of what I wrote at all and simply wrote it so that I didn't fail the subject. When I got my paper back, my English teacher said it was one of the stupidest things, if not the stupidest thing she's ever read, but it was beautifully written, especially the dialogue. I got an A+. From that day on, I knew that writing children's stories may well be a career path for me and I went on to write more pieces with older children being my intended audience. My teacher even set me a challenge in my final piece for the year, being writing in the third person. I pulled it off okay.
Since then I went to University, completing an Arts course, majoring in Professional Writing and Linguistics. I guess this is where I found myself and my true colours began to show through. I'm an editor at heart and I literally can't read anything anymore without trying to look for mistakes. I'm working as a Copy Editor/Proofreader/Customer Service Representative for Herald & Weekly Times and Leader Newspapers classifieds, but I hope to one day secure a job in the editing industry as I can't see myself doing anything else for a living.
The purpose of this website is to educate the everyday individual about basic grammar. I'm all about helping people out wherever I can and I figured this could be a good way of giving something back to the community. Hopefully the site will be a helpful and informative resource to all.
Just a quick note. The website displays better on PC. Using a mobile device is on the most part okay, however sometimes the text will not match up with the images so please keep that in mind. If you ever encounter this though, there is an option to switch to the web view. In addition, the hyperlinks for my quick reference guide unfortunately may not work on the mobile version either.
Lastly, if anyone wants a hand with anything editing or grammar related, or if you want me to proofread something, please feel free to shoot me an email: [email protected], or you can click on the email icon on the top right hand corner of each page. I'm always glad to be of assistance!
Thanks.
